Chic Hotel Breaks On Lanzarote
The Canary Island of Lanzarote was once synonymous with package tourism. But over the last few years the advent of budget flights has helped to attract more independent travellers to the island. Creating demand for more unusual and upmarket places to stay.
Package holidays still account for a large slice of Lanzarote´s total tourist market. But increasingly visitors are using the internet to create their own holidays in Lanzarote online. Finding cheap flights from airlines such as Skyscanner and matching this with accommodation that they have found on the web.
There are now a number of good quality boutique hotels catering to this market – and arguably the best known is the Finca Salinas in Yaiza, which really stands out from the crowd. Thanks largely to the fact that it has been painted a deep red colour whilst virtually every other building on Lanzaorte is a uniform white.
The Finca used to be owned by a wealthy trader who made his pile from sea salt. Exporting grains from the nearby Janubio salt works – which still operates to this day – to the tables of Europe. With his wealth visibly poured into this fantastic mansion. Which was taken over and lovingly restored by the new owners back in the 1980´s.
Today the Finca Salina is widely regarded as one of the best hotels in Lanzarote and welcomes guests from across Eueope. With guest rooms all arranged around a delightful swimming pool with views to the nearby Timanfaya Volcano Park, Lanzarote´s leading tourist attraction. The hotel is also home to an upmarket restaurant and spa sessions can be arranged for visitors on site in their rooms should they so desire.
The Finca Salinas sets the benchmark for other establishments on the island such as the Casona de Yaiza and the Caserio de Mozaga. But these are all based in the countryside. There are however other options in a more cosmopolitan environment such as the Gran Hotel, which is located in the island capital of Arrecife.
The Gran Hotel occupies what was once a burnt out shell of a building that had been built in contravention of local planning laws during the 1980´s. But it was transformed a few years ago into the sparkling edifice that it is today. Boasting high quality guest rooms across its seventeen storeys. The Gran Hotels is also located right next to the beach of Playa del Reducto which is locate din the heart of the capital.
